Dear Friend:

As we write, your Forum leadership has been working—carefully and regularly—to monitor health and safety reports coming from Gettysburg, the site of our eagerly anticipated November gathering. Our goal remains: to manage a successful Prelude and Symposium that will successfully bring us back together and also safeguard the well-being of all participants.

So far, we remain confident that we can convene as scheduled—by putting in place common-sense protections and precautions to enhance our safety and well-being.

To ensure that we can gather securely, we have decided after careful consideration to require safety protections that are increasingly becoming routine throughout the nation.

  • We will require that all attendees, lecturers, scholarship recipients, and vendors be fully vaccinated—and bring proof of their vaccination status to the Forum. Vaccination certification will be checked at registration.

  • Alternatively, if you have medical or religious issues regarding vaccines, we will accept proof of a negative COVID test within 72 hours (three days) of your arrival.

  • We will also strongly urge that masks be worn in common areas of the hotel and at non-meal sessions of the Forum. Hotel management will require staff to mask at meals, at the check-in desk, and at cash bars.

  • These rules will be in place for our Prelude as well. Please note that as of today, the Gettysburg Battlefield Visitor Center recommends, but does not require, masks, and does not ask for proof of vaccination. Our auditorium event there will be restricted to our exclusive use, and we will be masked. We will urge you to use caution when visiting the Cyclorama or other attractions in the building that are accessible to the general public.

We hope you will agree that these measures will help us create a safer and more secure environment for the 2021 Symposium. They should provide an increased level of confidence to all those who have registered—and we hope will convince those of you who have hesitated about enrolling to do so now, with more assurance.

If you have already registered but feel that you cannot agree to these health and safety protocols, we are prepared to refund your registration fee in full, and in strict confidence. Just let us know.

Many thanks for your understanding and cooperation and please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
